5 Ways to Upgrade Your Home

You’ve heard it before, “Out with the old, in with the new.” Just as we are constantly upgrading our gadgets and electronics, the house we live in deserves some loving too.  It’s time to add a little spiff to your home by making some upgrades that will make all the difference. Here are some ideas on ways that you can upgrade and add value to your home:
  • Customize Doors- Doors are essential to your home presentation. They not only showcase your house from the outside, but they also provide the entrance into your personal space, your humble abode which should be modeled after your tastes and preferences. It is true that first impressions matter. In the same way, the first impression of your house should be a positive one from the outside in. Look into the versatile and unique styles that will give your home more of a personality and a signature style.  In addition, the doors throughout the house should maintain the same feel that the front door has introduced. These are also important as they provide transitions into the different rooms and spaces.
  • More Closets- Speaking of doors, adding closets to your house can also prove to be a smart investment.  More closets equals more storage space, which is a much sought-out feature when it comes to buying a house. This also means a cleaner and less cluttered interior.
  • Upgrade to Wooden Floors- Just as doors and closets are important and will make a big change in how your house looks, floors also matter when it comes to making renovations. Tired of the same dull and generic carpet or tile look that’s been there ever since you moved in? Think about adding a whole set of new and polished wooden floors that will create a warm and unique atmosphere for you to walk (or slide around in your socks) in.
  • Mold More- Is your house “rough around the edges”? One of the most important parts of a presentation is in the small details. A simple, but efficient, way to create a home upgrade is to mold the “rough patches” (and edges). This will create a feel of class and attention to detail.
  • Go Green- Eco-friendly homes are now more popular than ever and there are tons of ways in which you can make conscious upgrades to yours and be as green-conscious as possible. These include: using energy efficient Compact Fluorescent Light bulbs (CFLs), which use less energy and last up to 10 times more than a standard incandescent bulb, installing low-flow toilets, using paint that is low in volatile organic compounds (VOCs), etc…

Keep in mind that these are just some ideas to get you started in making some renovations. The important thing is to pick one or two main areas where you would like to see improvements and start there. Before you know it, you will be well on your way to your dream home, a house you can proudly call your own and present to your family and friends!
